Eco-original recycled bags are a continuation of a journey first started by the inspiration of the Basothu tribe in Africa. Receiving their creative wisdom from the environment and their natural surroundings they soon became masters of the Litema design practice.
Theorists have long dwelled on from where Litema design inspiration stems. Researches, historians and the Litema artists themselves seem to share the common belief that it is from cultivation of the fields. The word 'Litema' stems from the word 'ho-le-ma' which means to cultivate, denoting a ploughed field.
Tribal Basothu women are considered the backbone of agriculture in traditional times and still contribute significantly today. Therefore, when we observe mirroring patterns seen in the harvest fields we also observe artists themselves transforming into role-players and inter-connectors with the earth.
Ben & Bear's Eco-original recycled bags follow the Litema designs of linear elements in engraved patterns symbolising linear harvest field furrows. The sun herself is recognisable as a motion of light and shade in the harvest field and also in the engraved composition.
Ben & Bear Eco-original recycled bags promise to continue with the work started by the Basothu women by using recycled materials as much as possible from reused tyre inner tubes to original vintage fabrics.
